STEVE'S VISION FOR EDUCATION

The Wake County Public School System Deserves Our Full Support
Wake County is known for our excellent schools and outstanding educators. A strong public education system is essential to a thriving community, and I am committed to giving every student, teacher, and administrator the support they need to excel.
While Wake County is performing well compared to the rest of the state, we must continue pushing for better outcomes. Our four-year graduation rate is higher than the state average. However, nearly 40% of Wake County students are not proficient in reading (source). There is still work to do to ensure every child has the opportunity to succeed.
As your next County Commissioner, I will work with our School Board members and with our residents to support the critical needs facing our public school system. I will fight to:
-
Partner with state and local leaders to improve teacher pay. This is key to retaining and recruiting excellent educators.
-
Expand resources and advocate for technology upgrades so that students have the modern resources they need to thrive in the 21st century
-
Strengthen STEM and vocational training to prepare students for the workforce
-
Increase the number of school counselors so every student has access to the mental health support
Wake County’s success depends on the quality of our schools. We must fully fund public education, close achievement gaps, and ensure teachers have what they need to do their jobs effectively. Better pay, more resources, and support programs will ensure our teachers can focus on what matters most—educating our kids.
Investing in our classrooms and educators is not just the right thing to do—it is the key to building a stronger future for all.
I know firsthand how education can change lives—that’s why I’m committed to making sure every child in Wake County has access to a high-quality education.
